Os Pássaros é o qüinquagésimo filme de Hitchcock. A obra, baseada no thriller de Dahpne du Maurier, deveria ser chamada de Aves Raras. Joseph Stefano, quem criara o roteiro de Psicose, não se interessou pela história. Hitchcock então chamou Evan Hunter para escrevê-la. Acharam a história curta e a reescreveram por completo, tendo somente como referência do conto original a idéia. Hitchcock também faz sua aparição típica nesse filme. A ponta de Hitchcock desta vez é passeando com cachorros diante de um Pet Shop. É bem fácil percebê-lo. Membros da equipe disseram posteriormente que aqueles cães comiam extremamente bem, inclusive melhor que muita gente dentro do set, tamanho o carinho do diretor pelos seus cães.[/b][/i]
